Prosperity

2-Chang

This character is composed of 2 suns. The sun is necessary for growth on the land. Here, there are two suns shining on the land, which represents excellent growth, and therefore prosperity.

Notice that the top sun is taller than it is wide, and the bottom sun is wider than it is tall. If we look at the history of this character, we can see although the bottom part looks like the sun, it is actually a different character, which means say, yuē. In other words, this is radical 73 instead of 72. Even so, it can be simply recalled. Radical 73 will be discussed later.

This character is pronounced chāng.

This character is not very commonly used, other than in many place names. It is included here to simplify remembering, as it is positioned between the character composed of 1 sun and the character composed of 3 suns. It is also used as a part of several characters as a sound element.
